This year sees the release of a re-vamped Judge Dredd movie which so wants to distance itself from the 1995 Sly Stallone movie it’s going by the solitary and fearsome name of Dredd. Four new stills, including a rather violent one, have appeared online for fans to get a look at. What do you reckon? Good… bad… meh?
The movie shot in South Africa last year and is going for a more gritty feel than the camp tone of Danny Cannon’s blockbuster.
Last year Empire magazine released a few images from Peter Travis’ Dredd movie and since then things have been quiet. The laughter died down perhaps? What this title needs is a trailer – stat!
Kiwi actor Karl Urban will play the new judge, jury and executioner.
DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring Dredd to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.
