Despite the critical ass-whooping these movies receive, the Resident Evil series just won’t die. Instead, they seem to be making more money. Paul W.S. Anderson is returning to the director’s chair again for Resident Evil: Retribution, the fifth instalment in the video game/cinema hybrid… no, it’s not a cross over – it’s a hybrid, a mutant, even.
The new movie will be with us in September and the first full theatrical trailer is now online for fans to enjoy. Personally speaking, this series is nothing but disposable cinematic experiences. Fun whilst they last then instantly forgotten. Anderson’s last effort, The Three Musketeers 3-D, hardly set the box office on fire though I did like its zany take on the Dumas novel. It turned Dumas into Dumb-ass. See what I did there?
Returning is Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez with Sienna Guillory, Kevin Durand, Shawn Roberts, Colin Salmon, Johann Urb, Boris Kodjoe, and Li Bingbing.
The wildly successful film franchise adaptation that has grossed nearly $700 million worldwide to the popular video game series, “Resident Evil,” returns in its highly anticipated fifth installment, “Re5ident Evil: Retribution” in state-of-the art 3D.
The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, Alice (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.
