Blade Runner is one of my all-time favourite films. It might even be my number one (it’s currently under discussion … with myself). My American friend Neil McCrea (who is actually a relative of Joel McCrea, an actor that appeared in films by Preston Sturges and Alfred Hitchcock) sent me over a link to these polaroid images currently doing the rounds taken by actress Sean Young during filming. The set of Blade Runner was not a happy one but these images, for fans of the movie, will be well worth checking out. It is well known Harrison Ford did not get on with his leading lady and you can see the expression on his face in one of the photos doesn’t exactly look cheerful … more confused. Rutger Hauer seems a little more chilled out.
If you’ve never read Paul Sammon’s book, Future Noir, on the history and production of Ridley Scott’s 1982 masterpiece, then I highly recommend it. These images are pretty darn cool. They also give us a good reminder of what a smokin’ hot babe Sean Young was back in the day. She was fantastic as Rachael, the girl who doesn’t know she’s a robot then finds out.
Scott is returning to the world of Blade Runner in the next couple of years and currently has Hampton Fancher, who wrote the script Dangerous Days, an early incarnation of what would become Blade Runner, on the job of drafting a new script.
