Dredd, the 2000 A.D. reboot, brought to you by Pete Travis and writer Alex Garland has been shown at San Diego Comic Con and early word is good. Lionsgate have released a clip which shows not only rather great visuals but a fair bit of the old claret (that means blood, if you’re not from the UK).
Last weekend Cinemart’s Alan Simmons went along to the London Film and Comic Con where he saw a world-first clip (take that San Diego … okay, they saw the entire film) and listened to the leading Judge (Karl Urban) talk about the film along with producer Andrew Macdonald and writer Alex Garland. You can read those ace article right here: There Will Be Dark Judges: DREDD Panel Report and Dredd Clip Report.
“DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.”
