If you love horror movies and the zombie genre specifically then you’ll have come across the work of Greg Nicotero and his colleague Howard Berger, who co-founded KNB Effects Group in 1988 along with Robert Kurtzman. For fans, seeing Nicotero’s name on the credits means you’re in for some bloody good gore and memorable stuff. His thirty year career in Hollywood and independent cinema has made him one of the absolute ‘go to’ artists when it comes to special makeup effects and prosthetic wizardry.

He’s currently working on The Walking Dead series and later in the month will be attending Film4 FrightFest to receive a new lifetime achievement award (the Variety Award) in collaboration with long-standing trade magazine Variety (hence that award name). Cinemart salutes this decision wholeheartedly.

FrightFest co-director, Alan Jones, recently praised the makeup artist for his contribution to horror:

“Film4 FrightFest is delighted to welcome back Greg Nicotero. Every time we see him his career seems to have taken another quantum leap and we are thrilled Variety has recognised his contribution to the genre in both fan and business terms. We love his company as much as his professionalism and are looking forward to hosting him on this auspicious occasion.”

Nicotero will be the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award on Saturday 25th August following an on-stage interview.
