The last thing we heard about Michael J. Barrett’s follow-up to Christophe Gans’ 2006 videogame adaptation was the studio delaying its release. It was finished absolutely ages ago. No reason was really given at the time until the director spoke out on the issue (see below).
Now the annual geekathon known as San Diego Comic Con is taking place this weekend, a clip from the movie has sprung up online via IGN and Youtube. It features nurses with no faces holding big knifes. Seems they’re attracted to sound. Looks like a Marilyn Manson music video…
Silent Hill: Revelation will of course be in 3D and is scheduled for release 26th October in the USA and a Halloween release over in the UK on 31st October. So fans will finally get to see the bloody thing. The video games are incredibly popular and although Gans’ film was trashed right on cue by critics, I rather liked it. Some of the original cast such as Radha Mitchell and Sean Bean have also returned for this sequel … which doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be any good, but they’ve been convinced or are contractually obliged to make an appearance. Oh, the cynicism…
Talking about the delay earlier this year via his blog, Barrett said:
“I have lots of pictures, interviews, trailers, even a finished movie but the people who have invested their money in making this film have chosen, rightly or wrongly, to hold back the release of anything until they have a release schedule for the film they’re happy with. It is their choice, and even as it’s frustrating as hell for me, I respect that this is how they wish to play it.”
Now we’ve got this clip, how about a trailer? would be nice to tide us all over. Silent Hill: Revelation stars Adelaide Clemens, Kit Harington, Sean Bean, Radha Mitchell, Deborah Kara Unger, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Malcolm McDowell.
